NABJ Issues Statement on Recent Changes at NBCUniversal

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) met with NBCUniversal’s head of diversity yesterday to discuss concerns about recent changes that have affected the Black voices seen and heard on air every day. While NBCUniversal leadership has assured us they are committed to elevating Black voices, we are disappointed by the removal of Joy Reid from her slot. Reid is a longtime journalist and host of The ReidOut, a major political commentary program.
NABJ Announces 2025 Convention Co-Chairs and Theme

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is headed to Cleveland this summer to host its annual Convention & Career Fair. Held Aug. 6-10, 2025, the theme, “Resilience, Advocacy, Excellence: Evolution of Our Voices,” will pay homage to NABJ’s 50th anniversary with special celebrations throughout the event. Helping bring the convention theme to life are three convention co-chairs with deep connections to the Cleveland community.
NABJ Congratulates Rashida Jones on Historic Tenure at MSNBC

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) congratulates longtime member Rashida Jones on her remarkable tenure and barrier-breaking impact as the first Black woman to lead MSNBC as president. When Jones was named to the role in 2021, she became the first Black woman executive to run a major cable news network. As president, according to NBCUniversal, she was responsible for oversight of all programming, digital expansion, new businesses, editorial units, business development, and technical operations.

Founded on December 12, 1975, December 2024 marks NABJ’s 49th anniversary and the kickoff of our journey to the 50th celebration in 2025. We will celebrate all year and hold special events at our #NABJ25 Convention in Cleveland, along with a can’t-miss program in December 2025.
